With over 30 years of legal experience, David is a well-known and hugely experienced litigator in the Cayman Islands.

David has been involved in most of the highest value matrimonial litigation in the Cayman Islands, and has been influential in setting case precedent, appearing before the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal on several occasions.

PRACTICE AREAS

The focus of David’s practice is:

• high-net-worth matrimonial finance, particularly ancillary relief proceedings
• offshore trust
• private client work.

David also provides expert evidence in family law matters for foreign law proceedings in several jurisdictions.

Since April 2020, David has sat as a part-time acting Judge of the summary court of the Cayman Islands.

McGrath Tonner, which David founded in 2005 and now leads as Managing Partner, has grown consistently year-on-year in size, capacity and reputation.

Prior to moving to the Cayman Islands, David was in practice at the bar of England and Wales at 1 Crown Office Row, Temple, London, regularly appearing in the Crown Court, High Court and the Court of Appeal.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

David is a faculty member of the International Academy of Family Lawyers which is a body comprising the most experienced family practitioners in the world.

David is the Chairman of the Cayman Islands Family Law Bar Association.

David has lectured on the subject of ‘Trusts in the Context of Divorce’ and is a contributing author to ‘International Trust and Divorce Litigation’ Jordans Family Law (2013).
